Mozca - Payment of Virtual Goods by Cell Phone

Movile entered into a partnership with Vostu, one of the biggest designers of social games for Orkut in Latin America, relying on more than 32 million players, to market items through 36 regional carriers.

Since November 2010,  the huge universe of Brazilian and Latin players on the growing market of social games can purchase items in some of their favorite games.

"Our first step is geared to social games, but we intend to enter into other partnerships to enhance our offer for the acquisition of other virtual goods and premium contents such as songs, films or any type of virtual goods", Fabrício Bloisi, Movile CEO, stresses.

"Through Mozca, we estimate the sales of virtual goods can be up to 8 times bigger than through the traditional payment means. In Latin America, there are more than 550 million cell phones that can be turned into new means of payment, conducting business transactions anytime, anywhere. Our micro-payment platform already carries out 1 million transactions a month and, upon Mozca introduction, we expect to multiply such figure by three in six months, as we also intend to direct such acquisitions to the new platform", Eduardo Lins Henrique, Movile micro-payment area manager, adds.

In his words, another benefit provided by the mobile payment platform is that any website can sell their virtual currencies through tens of carriers, thus eliminating the need for executing contracts with each. Mozca is starting up with a contract with one of the most prominent designers of social games in Brazil: Vostu.

Vostu brings together in its portfolio the popular games Mini Fazenda, CaféMania and Joga Craque, in addition to the recently introduced Vostu Poker, Pet Mania and Rede do Crime, which have won more than 32 million players in Orkut in 18 months.

In addition to Vostu, the website BoaCompra.com, one of the largest ones in credit sale for online games in the country, has also signed a contract with Movile.

"Therefore we gathered payments together through a mobile platform and other media – an offer never provided before on the market, whose payments can be made both by cell phone and other channels. Mozca will be not only a huge generator of revenues for the sale of virtual goods, but also will prevent the loss of a large volume of sales made on the web, as there is today a universe of cell phone users in the region much bigger than PC users, a scenario not likely to change", Bloisi states.

"Any website can, in a few minutes, have Mozca operating and billing through a totally customized widget bearing its logo. Just set the offers you are willing to offer and the conversion rate for your own virtual currency and start selling in any of the 36 carriers in the region you want. Everything is very easy and fast, without any paperwork", Eduardo Lins Henrique ends.
